In the Beginning
I first became interested in researching my family genealogy when I discovered that someone had written an entire book! about my maternal step-great grandmother's family. If that seems odd, let me explain. My grandmother, Ella Katherine "Kitty" Cutright Martin was the daughter of Dr. Ralph G. Cutright and his first wife, Ella E. Rohrbough. Ella died when Grandma was just 3 years old. Two years later Dr. Cutright married his late wife's youngest sister, Byrd Rohrbough. They remained married until the time of his death in 1954. Byrd is pictured above with some of her beloved flowers. She died at the age of 98.5.
I didn't find out that Byrd wasn't my "blood" great-grandmother until much later in my teen years. She was always called Grandmother, never Great-Grandma. She was very interested in preserving her family history and even helped the author of the book I found in the Genealogy department of my local library. I offer them both a thank you for that book being in the right place at the right time.
